Madison Square Garden Magic: "I Want Piper!" Part Three of Four

When Jimmy “Superfly” Snuka’s personal demons kept him from continuing his feud against “Rowdy” Roddy Piper, the WWF wrote him out with an injury storyline. Rather than abandoning the feud, the WWF introduced Snuka’s storyline cousin, the Tonga Kid to seek revenge against Piper. After a couple weeks of build-up, The Tonga Kid was established as a credible foe for “The Rowdy Scot” after his good showing in a match against Piper on the October 27, 1984 edition of Championship Wrestling.

Knowing Piper’s penchant for treachery, fans had to wonder when Piper would try to strike at the Tonga Kid. On the November 10, 1984 edition of Championship Wrestling, The Tonga Kid was wrestling Dave Barbie when “Rowdy” Roddy Piper showed up. Piper hadn’t counted on someone else showing up, the man he’d injured back in August - “Superfly” Jimmy Snuka came out wearing a neck brace and soon, Piper was running for his life. Snuka ripped off the neck brace. He was back and ready for action!

Join me now as I look at part three of the four-part series between Snuka and Piper, as well as he events outside the ring that led to the WWF shifting gears several times.
